How To Clean Leather Office Furniture

Posted on

If the leather office furniture in your office is dirty, learn how to clean it with the following steps. Once finished, preserve the leather to lessen the amount of time that it will take to clean the furniture in the future.

Use The Following Materials

  • vacuum cleaner
  • lint free cloths
  • mild detergent
  • distilled water
  • white vinegar
  • bucket
  • leather conditioner
  • buffing cloth

Vacuum And Remove Stains

Use the brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt from each piece of furniture. Adjust the vacuum to a low setting so that the suction from the attachment does not leave marks on the leather. Add a cup of mild detergent to a bucket of distilled water. Avoid using tap water because it may contain chlorine which could stain the furniture. Dip a lint free cloth into the cleaning solution and wipe it on each piece of furniture. Use firm pressure while removing stains.

If you have trouble removing any of the stains, add a cup of white vinegar to the soapy water to strengthen the cleaning solution. Dip another cloth in distilled water that does not have soap added to it. Wipe it over the furniture to remove residue that was left behind by the cleaning solution. Dry the furniture off with a soft towel.

Preserve The Leather

Pour a small amount of leather conditioner on a buffing cloth. Apply the conditioner to the leather surface, moving the cloth around in a circular motion. The leather will absorb the conditioner as it is applied. Continue adding more conditioner with the cloth until it no longer penetrates the leather. Wipe off the excess conditioner with a dry cloth. The conditioner will give the leather furniture a soft and supple feel. Apply conditioner whenever the furniture has a dull appearance and when the leather feels stiff.

Protect The Furniture From Damage

Never use cleaning products on the furniture that contain chemicals. These can strip the leather of its color and leave surface stains. Avoid placing the furniture in an area that receives direct sunlight. The sun's rays can cause the leather to fade and may form cracks in the material. Vacuum the furniture each week and wipe the leather off with a damp cloth.

Use mild detergent, distilled water, and a clean cloth to remove stains as soon as you notice them. These steps will maintain the condition of the leather so that your furniture continues to look great.
